A Life That Speaks is a tribute website celebrating the life and ministry of Apostle Femi Lazarus. People share how his life, words and leadership have shaped theirs, and each story appears on a public wall and as a light on a globe. This notice explains what we collect when you share a story, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
The site is run by the A Life That Speaks team. If you have any question about your information, or want to use any of your rights below, email celebratingafl@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you share a story, we collect:
- Your name, as you'd like it shown.
- Your story, and any photo or video you choose to add.
- Your location: country, and the state and city or town if you give them. We use these to place your light on the globe.
- Your email address, if you choose to add one. It's optional.
- The country your internet connection comes from, which our hosting provider works out automatically. Moderators use it to help check stories are genuine.
- A scrambled code made from your connection's address. It can't be turned back into the address. We use it only to limit how many stories one connection can send and to stop abuse.
If you use "Edit your story", we send a one-time code to your email to confirm it's really you.
Why we use it
- To publish your story on the wall and the globe, because you've asked us to by ticking the box when you share.
- To keep the wall safe and respectful. Every story is checked before it appears, and we use the details above to stop spam, abuse and fake stories.
- Your email, if you give one, lets you edit or delete your story later and lets us contact you about your story (for example to check you're comfortable with something being public). We never add it to a mailing list, use it for marketing, or share it outside the moderation team.
What's public and what isn't
Public: your name, your story, your city, state and country, and any photo or video, once a moderator has approved your story.
Never public: your email address, the country your connection came from, and the scrambled connection code. Only our moderation team can see these.
Who handles your information
Our moderation team reads stories before they appear. We also use trusted services to run the site, and they handle your information only on our behalf:
- Supabase stores the stories and sends the email codes. The database is in Ireland (EU).
- Cloudflare hosts the website, stores photos, plays videos and runs the check that you're not a robot.
- Resend delivers the code emails.
Some of these services may process information in other countries, including the United States, under contracts that protect it.
How long we keep it
We keep stories for as long as the tribute site is running, unless you delete yours or ask us to remove it. Stories that moderators take down may be kept for a while as a record, and then deleted. Blocks on connections expire after 24 hours. When a story is deleted, its photo or video is deleted too.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Change or delete your story yourself with "Edit your story" on the site, if you added an email when you shared it.
- Ask us to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Email celebratingafl@gmail.com with your name and the town you shared from, and we'll reply within one month.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. We'll remove your story, but this doesn't affect anything shown before you withdrew it.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Children
If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sharing a story. Please don't share photos or videos of children without their parent or guardian's permission.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. If you confirm your email to edit a story, your browser keeps you signed in until you sign out. The robot check may use technical signals from your browser, only to tell people and bots apart.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
